Majority of the students in our state study predominately in Bengali medium schools or in Kokborok and other minority languages.

They find themselves in disadvantageous situations on joining higher education where the medium of instruction and consequently the mode of interaction/ communication among peers and teachers are in English language.

Therefore, an intervention that will help the students passing out of the schools with good communication skills in English will not only enhance their future academic prospects but also raise their self esteem and confidence for enabling them to face competitive examinations successfully while also facilitating their prospects for availing Higher Education in any corner of India and abroad. In this aspect, a project to conduct special classes for spoken English with the help of external resources with reputed global agency is the need of the hour absolutely due to reasons like (i) though English is part of the compulsory subjects that the students are required to study in Elementary, Secondary & Higher level, the syllabus is designed majorly to promote comprehension of text along with some written communication skills like application, letters, etc and the weightage and the process of Assessment leaves very little scope to build strong oral communication skills among students.(ii) Existence of English Teachers without having studied in English medium of instruction at any stage. As a result, the culture of discussion in English with English teacher is very weak in schools which results in requirements of strong training for the teachers who have the aptitude to become an instructor of spoken English, to build the motivational factor.
